To save face, what started as a casual joke became a full-blown mission. We somehow cobbled together a plan and took the first, wobbly steps to make it a reality. But the truth is, things didn't truly fall into place until Kate joined the team. Her organizational skills were the magic ingredient we desperately needed—three dudes couldn't possibly manage an entire event. The Chili Bowl is proof that sometimes the best things happen for the silliest reasons. We wanted to look cool, we didn't want to admit defeat, and we needed a lot of help to pull it off.
